Gazebo Time!
There’s no doubt that this was the largest gazebo project that we’ve ever taken on. It was to be a 16x16 footprint with pine decking, plank roofing with peel-and-stick underlayment and GAF shingles, and electric outlets for the ceiling fan and music!
We were to put it directly in the center of this large backyard:
Once the framing is finished up, the deck boards go down pretty quickly. This only took us one day, and then it was on to the tough part!
The technical engineering drawings of this project were some of my favorite that we’ve ever done. We assembled the first roof truss to extended diagonally from corner to corner. If you know the center height, roof pitch, and diagonal length, you can calculate exactly where to cut the duck-mouth slots in the truss’s so that they sit perfectly onto the 4x4 uprights. I’m happy to say that this only took us one try!
The second truss went up without a hitch and Adam is looking very pleased about the stability at the peak! Then we had some product testers come by to inspect our framing before roofing began.
Laying down plywood is absolutely the easiest, quickest, and least expensive way to go for the roof deck. But you won’t get the same beautiful ceiling that this planking provided! This was absolutely the most time consuming part of this build.
There’s no easy way to install a new roof. The underlayment rolls are heavy, the shingles are messy, and it’s always hot here in Florida. Nothing to it but to do it!
This project took a total of 12 days with a price to the client of $12,500. This came in at a full $8000 less expensive than the next lowest quote, and can be enjoyed for many years to come!
